Dad's 70th Birthday... Celebrated!

As you all know, we have been praying for December 14 to arrive with the opportunity to celebrate 70 years of life for my dad.  Well, we did and we did it BIG yesterday.  Thank you all for your prayers and support through these 10 months.  His goal dates are now Christmas, the mounting of a canopy on their pickup in 4-5 weeks and then spring break.

I love you dad!  Thank you for being such a fighter and caring so much for your family.  I love you, Kimmer

Clearly The Best: Re-vamping with Overstamping Close To My Heart YouTube video

About Me - November 24, 2012

I love tradition!

After dealing with a stubborn frozen turkey "Tom", we were successful in preparing and serving a wonderful traditional Wilson/Ferguson Thanksgiving meal.  You ask why stubborn... Tom was stuck in the freezer.  Tom had his bare wings and thighs pressed against the wall of the freezer and was not going to come out.  His last ditch effort to avoid being the meal.  My youngest son and I were literally putting our feet on the freezer for leverage and pulling on Tom's bag to pull him out.  No luck until the ice maker began to come with him.  Truly a memory I wish someone else was here to video record for America's Funniest Videos.

After the great success of pulling Tom from the freezer, it was time for a swim.  It never fails, my mom coaches me on when I should pull the turkey from the freezer to allow for thawing, but they never do in time.  Thus, we play in the pool (kitchen sink) for a few hours.  After finally thawing, Tom hit the sauna (325 degree oven) for about 5 1/2 hours.

By the way Tom, we won and you were soooo good, all 23 pounds of you! :-)

After Thanksgiving tradition... I was raised in a household where the Christmas tree was put up the day after Thanksgiving.  It is getting a bit harder to make that goal as my children are now young adults and in college.  Their mom is short and has difficulty putting up a 9' tree, yes a fake tree with pre-strung lights (a story for another time).  I am blessed in that my children, along with college friends, made a special trip to put up the tree last night.  We made the "day after" tradition by a hair.  Christmas tree up, check!

Oh yes, I always try my best at purchasing all my Christmas presents by the end of October.  Very, very close to success this year, but not quite.

Now we begin plans for December birthdays, there are a lot between the Wilson/Ferguson sides.  As you know, December 14 is the big one.  We pray my dad will see his 70th birthday on that day.

Enjoy your holiday preparations and celebrations.  Record your traditions for all to treasure.  Be there for the turkey pullers, tree choppers and package wrappers.  We all need traditions to hold on to.

About Me - November 17, 2012

I have not had any wise words to share, nor anything really fun and fantastic, only the mundane ins and outs of life for a couple of months.  It is a struggle each day to make myself lift one leg out of bed at a time as the alarm sings in my ear that a new day has begun.  Knowing I will be spending the day with my students is a great motivator in a world of frustration within my personal life.

As most of you are aware, we are dealing with my dad having Acute Myeloid Leukemia (diagnosed in February 2012).  It has been a complete emotional roller coaster.  One month he is receiving shining reviews from his oncologist and the next we are being asked how strong he feels and is he still willing to put up a fight.

I find myself being selfish as we approach the season of celebrating.  There is a real possibility we may face losing him before the season is over.  How then do you face the holidays in the coming years?  I have asked my mom to consider them as celebrations as we have always known the holidays to be.  We need to be able to also look at the fact that we were originally given 3-5 months for dad to be with us and he is still here today.  That is what our focus will need to be... celebration that we have him this much farther than expected.

Our family goal date is December 14th, my dad's 70th birthday.  That is the date I know he is fighting towards.  It will be a huge celebration.  Please join us in prayers, we ask that he have no suffering, peace about what the future holds and for a truly wonderful 70th birthday and holiday season.

You are my wonderful blog family and friends, I have so appreciated your words of encouragement and stories of your own losses and sufferings.  Thank you all.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

About Me - October 13, 2012

Well :)? years ago tomorrow I was brought into this wonderful world by two very special parents.  To this day many great things have happened to me and I treasure each and every moment.  A bigger reason to celebrate tomorrow is the fact that my dad will be with me on my birthday!  As you have read prior, he was diagnosed in February with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and given 3-5 months.

My two boys, even though they are college students now, are close to me and still able to be with me as well.  What more could a girl ask for?

So, this week I will be sharing birthday celebration layouts!  We need to party BIG this week.

Enjoy your week!
