12 months of scrapbooking - May

With the May background and texture paper you can see how you can completely change the look of the same papers by changing accent color choices.  "Mom" figures cut using Cricut.

12 months of scrapbooking - April

My original April title page would not allow for the camera to focus for some reason, tried several ways.  Now you can see it with the embellishments.  The sun was cut using the Cricut and the gems are from Close To My Heart and Michaels.

12 months of scrapbooking - February

February title page has been given some bling and stickers to accent for Valentine's Day.  As for the February two page layout, notice the sponging around the edges of the papers giving some dimension.

12 months of scrapbooking - January

Using iron on crystal and stud appliques, I have embellished the original title page.  I then created a two page layout using the same papers.  For these, I will wait until I have pictures placed before I begin my creative touches so as to match the theme of my photos to the embellishments.

12 Months of Scrapbooking - Basic Layout

Recently I purchased a pack of papers from Michaels with the 12 months of the year as a theme.  Each month has a sheet with the month's name all over in different directions.  There are also 2-3 other papers to coordinate.

I have taken 2-hours to create all 12 months worth of title pages using the Close To My Heart foundational how-to publication Reflections Scrapbook Program item #9037 $14.95 in the Spring/Summer Idea Book.  Keep in mind the layouts below are basic and can be embellished to your hearts content.

camera would not focus, sorry!

Ease of Scrapbooking... Just DO It!

If you know me well enough, then you know it is not about me being a scrapbooking/rubber stamping consultant for Close To My Heart, or now being a Kid's Kamp teacher for JoAnn's to earn an income.  It is about me sharing with you my passion for the importance of preserving your memories for all generations to enjoy.
I began teaching scrapbooking/rubber stamping about 20+ years ago for the very reason of getting peoples photos out of unsafe albums, photo envelopes, canisters and cameras.  Now, I see the need to encourage people to not only save their digital images on computers, online storage websites, flash drives and the like... but to also print them for people to touch and to see displayed.  I worry someday there will be an epic digital failure and all those "safely" stored memories will be wiped out.
To a lot of you scrapbooking every image is overwhelming.  I understand that, but how about a general overview of life as a starting point?  Here are a couple options:
Close To My Heart Studio J
Create your pages online and PRINT them to place into a scrapbook album for hands-on enjoyment.  Here is a how-to video for beginning your journey to sharing your memories.
Becky Higgins, Project Life
This is a fast way to scrapbook pre-printed images and to be creative on your own without a computer.  This system has also taken the stress out of layout decision making.  Keep in mind, this is a simple way to get started, but it does limit your possibilities.

Close To My Heart, My Legacy Albums

This is my scrapbooking system of choice... a blank 12x12 piece of cardstock, coordinating background and texture paper, embellishments, rubber stamps and the Cricut paper cutting system.  I have no limits other than my own.  Photos can be placed in any direction and embellishments can be placed anywhere on the page.  I love to touch and feel my scrapbooking "stuff".

Whatever your scrapbooking choice keep in mind it is the importance of preserving and sharing your memories that matters.  We owe it to our future generations to leave a legacy!

Sewing Lesson

What a great evening!  A neighbor came over for a beginner sewing lesson...  How to sew on buttons.  It was a great time of fellowship and sewing.  I do believe I am officially over the hump of my slump.

Oh yes, having her over gave me the boost and inspiration to clean the downstairs and... take down the Christmas tree!  It will be missed.  We were getting used to having a bit of the outdoors as a permanent fixture in the living room.  Although, it was a pre-lit fake tree.  We had never gotten around to decorating it.

Miss you dad, two months tomorrow.

About Me - February 18, 2013

I am a morning person most of the time.  Workdays at 5:30 in the morning, not so much.  On my days off I truly love going downstairs making a cup of coffee and then heading upstairs to my craft room.  It is a happy place amidst all of the stickers, embellishments and papers.  Family memories float around the room as well.

My apologies for such sporadic postings in the past couple of months.  I have been in a quite a slump over losing dad.  I will be much happier when I can not calculate the time from specific points in the last year of his life.  February 21st will be the one year mark of his being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  He was given 5-8 months at that time and made it 10 months and 3 hours :-)

A first sign I am beginning to come out of my slump... I scrubbed the shower last Sunday.  If you knew how unmotivated I have been outside of my job, you would know how huge that was.  This three day weekend has been spent painting and preparing a rental house to go back on the rental market.  It was a nice distraction from the personal house mundane chores.

Now, let's celebrate President's Day with some crafting!  Take some time to share when you are in your "zone" to complete scrapbook layouts or to stamp up a few cards for the special people in your life.

Anniversary scrapbooking

March is quickly approaching, time to start planning our anniversary celebration of 24 years.  Funny thing is, I am trying to think more about our 25th and how we should celebrate big next year.  My in-laws also have their anniversary in March, last year was their 50th.  We did celebrate huge!

Think I am going to begin the celebration now by working on scrapbook layouts and anniversary cards.  Any takers to join in with me?

I'll be back to share.
