What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 217 (WOYWW)

WOYWW

Ewww!  My mother always told me to clean my room in case company comes by... Well, here you are my visitors and guess what, mom?!  I have permission to have a messy space because I am participating in the What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday!  First time EVER, thanks to the wonderful FrugalCrafter YouTube videos I am addicted to.

Thank you to Stamping Ground, we have the freedom to share our MESS!

If you read my "About Me" post for today, you will see a reference to my dishes in the sink and how I too make my boys work before play.  I got ya both, mom and boys, this is my work.  It is the sign of creativity for this weekend's open houses.

I have been making the creative juices flow for cards, scrapbook layouts and even a try at a "Smash" type of journal.  This all done on this one table, but hey, at least I have a space out of the walk-in closet where I used to be.

Hi, Kim Ferguson here.  So glad to meet all of you.  I am a middle/high school teacher (art, home economics, college/career, study skills) by trade and know that my 24/7 days of crafting at home are quickly coming to an end.  However, it does sort of run over into my job, as well.

Thanks for the warm invitation to "jump right in".  Have a great last day of July.

Visit my website and browse the new Close To My Heart Autumn/Winter 2013 idea book tomorrow. When you order, please join Kim's Open House and I will send you a thank you gift.

Enjoy!

About Me - July 31, 2013, One Year Anniversary with Close To My Heart as an Independent Consultant

Haha, I have to laugh as I remember sitting in my bed, just as I am now on a sleepless night typing on my very first blog post.  The uncertainty of what I was about to venture into was quite intimidating.  Especially since I knew then that the technical support from my computer generation kids was dwindling since my boys were both in college and not easily at my beacon call.  I was at least able to corner them in the car on the drive to and from school to get my questions in with minor interruptions from their devices, as I am a teacher at their private school.  Or rather, now their alumni.

Let me just say that I have found the answer to the "how"...  And yes, we can say it here...  YouTube videos!  I am amazed at the wealth of information available to us at simply typing in the correct words in a search bar.  Sometimes or rather a LOT of times even when I type in something wrong as I do not know what the exact name given is, I still end up going on some rabbit trail on a whole new idea or product.  My goodness have I ended up spending HOURS in front of my laptop watching YouTube and visiting blogs.  Do not tell my boys and do not look at the dishes sitting in the sink which they were repeatedly lectured about work before play.  :-)

The thought going through my mind for "why" I should do a blog was that it would be a backup to the consultant referral service on the Close To My Heart website, fliers I had handed out, newsletters, word of mouth, etc.  One year later I can tell you that the only ways I have promoted my CTMH business has been through the referral website, a year's worth of e-mailed fliers, one city newsletter ad, monthly CTMH electronic newsletters, personal monthly or more frequent e-mail updates, blog, Facebook and Pinterest.  My new found avenue has been Google +1.   I had that "I made it" feeling last week when I typed in my name along with Flip Flaps and I was about the fifth or sixth Googled website listed.  That is amazing to me and quite a personal boost to have come across that fact.  How very rewarding to me as an individual, however small to anyone else, it is huge to me.

Google me :-)

Through this technological "journey" this past year I have learned that I have the desire to continue to learn and grow in my knowledge of the social media highway.  Before heading off to bed tonight, the first time, I went on-line and ordered a tripod and microphone.  With my husband's encouragement, I am going to give my best at learning the world of teaching through YouTube videos.  I love to teach and share, as he was feeling the overwhelming sharing part when I would not let him go to sleep until all my thoughts were out on the table this evening about where to go from here.  Please join me for a second year as your Close To My Heart Independent Consultant, as well as, an all around paper crafter and whatever else we get ourselves into because I entered the wrong spelling or word in Google or YouTube search, lol.  I hope to meet you here to recap another year in August 2014.  Let's see what we can do in a year...

Enjoy the journey with me!

Please go back a year in time with me and read my very first blog post, About Me - August 2012

Metal Die Cut Storage

ArtBin - Magnetic Die Storage Case

I used to have an online scrapbook supply source who had great low prices, but they have since had to liquidate and shut down.  They were a great source for QuicKutz die cuts.  My biggest find through them for die cuts were the countries.  I am a part of Postcrossing.com where I send postcards internationally and receive postcards back from others around the world. So, I had to have those die cuts!

How to store these wonderful finds?  I came across the ArtBin - Magnetic Die Storage Case at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts when I taught a class last week.  It was on sale for $9.99, regularly $21.99!

Then, I stopped by Craft Warehouse yesterday after meeting with a long time friend and found the ArtBin - Magnetic Die Sheets (3-pack) on sale for $5.00, regularly $8.99!  Don't you love stumbling across great sale finds?!

Here is the results of my efforts.  Love how they are all in one container where they will not fall out.  I did have them rubber banded together in a tub.

I cut up the cardboard insert and used double-sided tape to adhere it to the back of the magnetic sheet.  This will help me to know what is on each magnetic sheet as it is not always easy to tell through the padded cover.

Happy Organizing, enjoy!

Laughing Lola/Artbooking Cricut cartridge birthday scrapbook layout

Resist Stamping!  I did it!

I have been looking at ideas and samples from other Close To My Heart independent consultants and the YouTube videos that CTMH Corporation puts out for quite a little while.  As you could see from my post about my vacation, I took a lot of paper crafting supplies.  Among my tools I brought along the supplies to give resist stamping a try.  Here is what I came up with...

The letters and Halloween cuts are from the new Close To My Heart exclusive Cricut cartridge Artbooking (available August 1).  I heat embossed the lacy image from a stamp in the Sweet & Lovely stamp set (1 of 3 My Acrylix stamp sets included with the Artbooking cartridge).  I then used a sponge dauber with black ink to highlight the embossed image.  LOVE IT!

I also did the same technique on the arrow, one of the Dimensional Elements  (3-12"x9" chipboard sheets) which comes with the cartridge, as well.

To create a shine on the spider web, I used the CTMH Liquid Glass.  Other bling on the page layout are from Sparkles gem assortments.

Here is a view of the entire 2-page layout.  Paper pack used is Laughing Lola (available August 1).  All supplies listed below.  Be sure to browse my website for "while supplies last" items and get your order in for the new products which become available to you on August 1.

Enjoy!

About Me - Vacation Scrapbooking 2013

Hi fellow paper crafters,

I have returned home from a week's stay at the Oregon coast.  An annual trip I make with my mom.  We have taken this trip every year since my two boys were very young.  Our numbers have dwindled.  We lost dad in December, so he was not with us.  The boys are 19 and 21 with school and jobs, they are not able to be with us for the week.  My oldest son did make it for three nights.  The youngest had to stay home for summer college classes.

It was a time of healing.  It was hardest on my mom.  This trip we did stay at a different Thousand Trails campground which made it a little less hard on her.  It is still hard with all the firsts we do since we lost dad.  Mom and I had a lot of time to talk together and work through some decisions she needs to make.

I can remember being young and loving that I was the only child and received all the gifts and attention.  Now it is a time in my life that I truly wish there were more children to help with being there for mom.  We are only about 40 minutes apart, but still that makes it hard for the last minute, "let's do this" type of things.

As always, we took our scrapbooking supplies, Kindles, books, DVD's and munchies.  We touched each and everything we brought this time!  If I did not use something I brought, then she did.  It was fun.  We both came home feeling like we had accomplished MUCH.

I am happy to say as a CTMH consultant that I love our products and had a lot of fun using my new products and Cricut cartridge.  If only there were all the time in the world once we return home to our daily lives.  :-)

Summer vacation is half over for me and I need to begin preparing for the CTMH open houses and for the new school year.  Busy, busy.  I am also committed to teaching at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts through August 23.

Here is a photo I just had to share from my packing for the trip.  My personal effects consisted of one duffle bag and a pillow.  This is all the scrapbooking supplies I took, minus a few things already in there place.  Completed page layout photos to come soon.  I don't want to give everything away that I am planning for the show n' tells for open house.

I did take time to post the most recent YouTube videos from Close To My Heart.  Check them out on older posts.

Happy vacation to you all.  Enjoy!

Cartridges, stamp sets and dimensional elements organization - Close To My Heart exclusive Cricut cartridges

Here is what I came up with to keep track of which cartridges go with which stamp sets and dimensional elements.  I also wrote on the plastic ziploc pouch for the dimensional elements pouch which page number in the cartridge handbook each shape can be found for ease of use.  What have you done to keep track of your Cricut cartridges and their supplemental tools?

Visit my Close to My Heart independent consultant website.  Enjoy!

JoAnn Electric Cartridge and Supply Storage

Welcome Artbooking to your new home!

I finally broke down and took all of my Cricut cartridges out of the original storage boxes and consolidated them into the JoAnn Electric Cartridge and Supply Storage boxes.  I have plans for the original boxes, but will give that secret away another time :-)

With the Cricut Craft Room, all of your cartridges can be stored digitally through linking.  There is little need to have all of your cartridges accessible since they are digitally stored.  I also have a Gypsy for the "on the go" opportunities to create cuts.

I do not know about you, but I am always looking for ways to organize my craft room for ease of use.

Chirp, chirp.  Off to explore the handbook for the Artbooking cartridge.

Enjoy!  Visit my Close To My Heart  independent consultant website.
